The Feast of Jesus’ Resurrection, 2018

“And they said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid . . .” (Mark 16:8)

That story ended there.

They were afraid? But why?

Jesus was dead, now he’s alive!

But that’s why they were afraid.

Death then life isn’t supposed to happen.

People don’t get up and leave graves.

God is changing the rules.

If you had any sense, you’d be afraid . . .

They were afraid? But why?

Death is swallowed up in victory!

But that’s why they were afraid.

Death is supposed to be the biggest bad.

If it can be swallowed, what’s next?

God is changing the rules.

If you had any sense, you’d be afraid . . .

They were afraid? Of course!

They were afraid . . . because . . .

They had sense.

They believed.

God is changing the rules.

So they were afraid.

So they took a beat.

So they didn’t tell.

They were afraid . . . but then . . .

They remembered they were thrilled

—of course they were afraid, but joyful, too.

They had all kinds of sense . . . but still . . .

God was changing the rules.

Yet the most important rule is still . . . love.

Be afraid.

Take a beat.

Trust God.

Trust love.

The story’s just begun . . .
